On a once vacant hill just up the street was the site for the Battle of Ackia in May 1736…now the location has several houses built on the site, but a historic marker tells of the earlier Chickasaw village & the French defeat. The erroneous 1935 location of the site is on the Natchez Trace where the federal government originally thought the village of Ackia was and the battle occurred. Ackia village site was a windy grassy knoll where we played as ignorant children in the 197s..
