On a once vacant hill just up the street was the site for the Battle of Ackia in May 1736…now the location has several houses built on the site, but a historic marker tells of the earlier Chickasaw village & the French defeat. The erroneous 1935 location of the site is on the Natchez Trace where the federal government originally thought the village of Ackia was and the battle occurred.
